Participating in the PIT Count is the most important thing you can do to help end homelessness in your community. Having an accurate count of the people experiencing homelessness is an essential part of how we:

What to Expect

The PIT Count is conducted across Louisiana on the night of February 21st.

Your community's volunteers will meet at a central location on the night of the PIT Count. You'll receive any last minute notices or instructions before breaking off into assigned volunteer teams. Each team will include at least some professional homeless services workers.

Your team will use a designated vehicle (volunteered by a homeless services agency) to visit one or more known locations where people experiencing homelessness often congregate or sleep. There, you will conduct a brief survey with each person you meet who is willing to participate.

You can expect to spend approximately two hours conducting surveys before returning to your community's central location.

We work hard to ensure the PIT Count is a very safe experience. Each outreach team is accompanied by a member of local law enforcement for their protection.

Important Dates and Times

The night of the PIT Count is February 21st.

Start times vary from community to community, but most communities begin just after sunset.

There will be two training opportunities for PIT volunteers:

The Counting Us survey training will equip you to use our app-based survey tool. This webinar-based training is optional.

The volunteer and safety training will equip you with the basic knowledge you need to successfully and safely conduct the PIT Count. This training is required.

We will announce training dates soon. Expect them to be scheduled one or two weeks in advance of the PIT Count date.
